I’m a committed public servant and community advocate focused on practical, people-first leadership for Archuleta County. I’ve lived here for nearly 10 years, and I understand what residents are asking for: reliable county services, responsible growth that protects our quality of life, and leadership that respects taxpayers.
Archuleta County faces real decisions—managing budgets responsibly, maintaining critical infrastructure, and ensuring county government is transparent and accountable. I’m running to bring steady, solutions-driven leadership to the County Commission: careful planning, clear priorities, and straightforward communication with the public.
As your County Commissioner, I will prioritize fiscal responsibility, open government, and collaboration—working with residents, staff, and community partners to strengthen services and expand opportunity without placing unnecessary burdens on families and small businesses. I believe the best outcomes come from leaders who listen, follow the facts, and act with integrity.
Taxpayers deserve a county government that lives within its means. Over the past few years, we’ve seen costly land purchases when the county already holds significant property, and major building projects approved while budgets are tight. That approach isn’t sustainable—and it isn’t fair to families and small businesses. I’ve lived here for nearly 10 years, and I know people are tired of being asked to pay more while basic priorities compete for funding. I will work to put strict discipline back into budgeting, slow down unnecessary spending, and require clear justification for every major expense before a single dollar is committed.
County government should not operate behind closed doors. Decisions that impact taxes, services, and long-term planning must be made openly, with clear explanations and accessible information. I will insist on transparent budgeting, straightforward reporting on spending, and a public process that invites input early—before decisions are finalized. The people who live and pay taxes here should never feel like an afterthought. I’m committed to listening first, communicating clearly, and ensuring your priorities shape county decisions.
We need practical, results-focused leadership—especially on building, maintenance, and infrastructure decisions. The county should rely on qualified expertise, strong project oversight, and realistic planning that matches their financial position. I will work to strengthen support for county staff, set priorities that improve daily services, and focus on projects that deliver real value to the public. No more overbuilding, no more wish lists, and no more moving forward without a responsible plan to pay for it.
Randy Betts understands Archuleta County from both sides of the counter—as a local small business owner, and as a county professional responsible for protecting public safety and guiding responsible development. Before joining the county, Randy owned and operated a construction company in Pagosa Springs, gaining firsthand experience with the realities local families, contractors, and small businesses face: rising costs, permits and timelines, and the need for clear, consistent processes.
Randy later accepted the role of Archuleta County Building Inspector, and now serves as Archuleta County Building Official. In these positions, he has worked closely with the Building and Planning Departments and has a working knowledge of how county operations connect—from permitting and code enforcement to long-term planning and capital needs. That inside perspective matters in a county where smart growth, infrastructure demands, and budget constraints must be managed carefully.
Randy is focused on practical, cost-effective improvements that strengthen county services, increase accountability, and support responsible development without wasting taxpayer dollars. He brings a steady, solutions-driven approach—built on experience, attention to detail, and a commitment to making county government work better for the people who live here.
This campaign is about the residents of Archuleta County and the members of the community who work hard for each other. Let's talk about the change you want to see.
